Practices to avoid during menstrual phase according to Ayurveda
-
Eat more rice bowls- they are grounding, nourishing and help boost Agni (digestive fire)
-
Get plenty of rest- now is not the time to plan all of the things. Your body is in the Vata phase of your cycle and it’s easy to overdo things which will lead you to feeling frazzled, anxious and never feeling like you have enough time.
-
Meditation, Pranayama & grounding practices- since it’s the Vata phase stay grounded, take time to connect to your intuition and listen to your body!
-
Avoid spicy foods, nightshades, junk foods & sugar all of which can increase heat and inflammation in your body at this time. Help reduce cramps by watching what you eat leading up to your bleed.
-
Ease sugar cravings with the coconut fennel recipe (recipe below)
-
Don’t exercise- if you “have” to do something a light walk, and restorative yoga are best. Your body is already doing a ton while your bleeding so be kind to you and give it a rest. You can pick up your routine on day 3 or 4 when your energy is feeling better and your heavy bleeding days are complete.
