What do you want to shift?

I've been really pondering my own workouts this past month. I personally love a challenging workout but the Ayurvedic side of me says not to push it all the time. For example, the Ayurvedic text actually discourages workouts in the summer months. **The ancient text was created in India where the summer months are much warmer and a far different climate than where I reside. I have found the past few weeks contemplating what I want my workout routine to look like over the summer months. I've been craving the intensity again (pitta side of me) wants attention in that area.

After the last full moon & total eclipse I really felt the energy bubbling up to the surface and spilling over and not in a positive way. The following weekend I felt a calm again. I sense of, I do know what I need and I do know what my body wants to do even if that's not what the ancient texts say is "good" for it right now. It's a balancing act and it will always be one. Right now astrologically speaking we are in a time to go inwards and reflect. Shed layers of what is no longer serving us. As we approach the summer season I find it to be a perfect time to reflect on your own life, what is working what needs to change? This is also why I took a social media break which I have been absolutely loving. It's been almost 2 months and I really feel more grounded in who I am, more present with my daily life and overall better mentally for it. If you feel like you need to start reflecting on areas to go inwards on but not sure where to start. Below are a few suggestions to focus on over the next month.

Wellness areas to tap into and see if you need to make tweaks

  • Workout Routine
  • Is there a sport you used to play or love and maybe want to try lessons or a league again this summer? Example, I just signed up for advanced tennis lessons at a park nearby my home each week.
  • Nutrition- do you crave more salads, lighter foods and more veggies
  • Sleep routine
  • Morning routine
  • Meditation practice- do you have one, does it need to look different, does a walking meditation in the woods appeal more to you in the summer months?
  • Do you need to stretch more? Are you feeling tight from lifting weights and need more mobility in your life?
  • Do you want to start a daily walk practice after dinner?
  • Do you need to drink more water?

These are all suggestions to give you ideas on where to start expanding your own wellness routines. What works for one person might not work for you. Finding your own balance and routines is the key to sticking with your own practices.

You can listen to more suggestions on this week's solo podcast episode where I talk more in-depth about my social media break and how it was affecting my life in ways I didn't even realize.

Social Media Break

How much screen time have you had this past year?

If you like myself have increased your screen time dramatically you might start really feeling the affects right now. Not only physically but mentally as well. There is so much coming at us, news platforms, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, even Pinterest. It's a sea of information out there and we are swimming in it.

I’m thankful that I grew up in the era where social media wasn’t present, and neither were cellphones. I’m from the era of encyclopedias and dial up internet was just coming about and it took 10 minutes to load.

Now we have countless websites, and apps pulling for our attention and load in seconds. It’s easy to mindlessly click on an app and spend 20 minutes browsing it before we even are aware that we just did that.

This past month as part of my new moon intention I took the month off Instagram. Which I’ve done in the past. I’ve decided to take the entire summer off the platform now. I really enjoyed my time of being present with life, not having to think about do I need to take a picture or video of this to create a reel for my next post.

I also found I don’t feel as if I’m missing anything. At first I did but now having been off for a month it feels refreshing to not have to be informed about every issue 24/7, did I post the “right” thing, should I say something, should I not? At the end of the day if it’s not coming from the heart it’s not real and I think I feel a lot of that going on in the online space this past few months.

I will report back how it goes, as I know many business owners who are contemplating this exact thing. Can I walk away from these social media platforms, how will it affect my business? You can also ask how will it continue to affect me if I stay on it in the manner I’m using it? Is this how I want to live my life? I don’t think there is a right answer for everyone but if you’ve been feeling that tug to take a break, do it. You don’t have to announce it, though you can do that if you’re taking a longer break, I do plan on doing that so people know where to find me this summer. But if it’s a weekend break don’t feel pressured to announce your departure, most people will not notice the absence for a few days.

Let me know are you on social media, how do you feel about it, in particular this past year? I released a shorter podcast episode about it but want to put together real peoples thoughts on this to record a longer solo show exploring how it is affecting us. If you haven’t watched the Social Dilemma yet that is a great show on Netflix to watch just to explore the interworking of these platforms and what they are doing to us as a society. I feel it’s playing out in real time right now.

I will leave you with this reminder that I tell myself- It’s my choice on what I consume. If it’s not feeling in alignment right now, I can change that.
