Whole Foods vs. Wal-Mart Price Comparison

I have been wanting to share this post for awhile I did a shopping spree to both Whole Foods & Wal-Mart and bought a week’s worth of meals along with snacks that were available at each location. One common thing people say to me is eating healthy is expensive. I wanted to do a little comparison to see if the old adage is true.

(I bought diapers & snacks for my hubby so subtracted that from the food total)

The Winner

So as you can see Wal-Mart was cheaper by $21.59. With that being said I spent more money overall at Wal-Mart due to convenience foods that were located conveniently on the end of the aisles. I bought Oreos & fun size candy bars for my hubby (I knew I would eat some to) after I resisted them multiple times but I walked by them one to many times and gave in : )

Side Notes

I’m also much more likely to purchase diapers and other kitchen products (though I prefer non-toxic brands and sometimes hard to find at Wal-Mart) but more likely to add extra things into my cart as I’m shopping.

I also found the produce at Wal-Mart to not be as appealing as the Whole Foods fresh foods. The kale & radishes looked to be on there last leg at Wal-Mart.  I typically don’t buy organic when it comes to every produce item. So that didn’t play a factor in my comparison. I purchased much more on what looked the best and smelled the freshest.

Let me know in the comments below where do you grocery shop? I know for my mom she doesn’t have another option within 30 miles of her besides a Wal-Mart or a local chain of grocery stores. So depending on what part of the country you live in you might not have access to fresh produce and that is why I wanted to compare to show you, you do have options it just might not be 5 star quality.
