How do you incorporate nature during the winter with your son? That was a question I was asked recently and wanted to share a few ideas on how to get kiddos outside in the winter snow.⁣

I still go to my favorite hiking trail and take Jalen. He sometimes walks, sometimes I push him in the stroller which if you hit a snow patch #workout 😂. ⁣

As we are on our walk we do our 5 senses activity. Often he will start it and just pause and say mama what do you hear right now? We work through the senses I let him eat the clean white snow and taught him yellow snow = 👎🏽 to eat. ⁣

We look for bird and squirrel nests in the trees, we pause to look at animal prints in the snow, and talk about animals that hibernate. I will also preface he doesn’t got to daycare or preschool right now. Since I have a teaching degree I can throw together loose lesson plans. ⁣

Usually after our walks we head to the park which as long as you have snow pants on is still quite a bit of fun for kids. Plus the parks are empty in the winter in Minnesota🤷🏼‍♀️

Jalen also has a nature journal so if we collect any sticks, rocks, leaves that have fallen off trees he will bring them back to draw in his journal. If we see a cool waterfall, river or a random basketball lying in the woods he might draw that as well. I label and date it and keep it in a safe space. ⁣

My other interests are playing tennis, watching the Hallmark Channel, and enjoying my morning cup of coffee. I also love exploring my favorite nature trail with my two boys and hubby.
