It's Been a Journey!

Now, granted I was pregnant for none of those months but still it’s in accomplishment. Yes I’m still breast-feeding. Still, it’s an accomplishment.

When I was in college, my sophomore year I lived in the party house. It was fun, but it was also madness, especially on the weekends. Most of the time I would drink on those Saturday nights when we didn’t have games, but because I played two sports. My season was a bit longer than my roommates. so there was times I was sober to try to sleep through parties. My junior year I lived in a milder house, not many parties but roommates who partied. By the time I senior rolled around I was ready to be done with that scene and live on my own. I had a cute little studio apartment across the street from my college and I loved it. my true nature is not one who needs a drink. I didn’t start drinking until the summer after I graduated high school and only then I drink a few times before I went to college. My parents rarely ever drink. It was something that was stepped into my being.

2019. I started to take away some of the rules I put on myself such as only drinking on a Friday or Saturday night. I took that away and allowed myself to drink whenever I wanted it that quickly spiraled Covid and I found myself having a very challenging relationship with alcohol. That lasted for a few years I knew something had to change.

When I became pregnant with my son, I knew this was turning point for me on so many levels. I knew I wanted to be better and being better to me was taking away the alcohol. No more wine culture sit with your feelings and deal with them. Some pitta tough love was needed.

As a mark my two-year sobriety date I’m so proud of myself and honestly shocked at how little I think alcohol. I thought I would struggle going to events. The first few events I went to none of them had nonalcoholic options. Water was it. It threw me right into the fire And I felt like that’s exactly what I needed. I don’t see myself drinking again. I will never say never, but it does not sound appealing whatsoever to me at this stage. I don’t even recognize who I was when I was so consumed with needing to drink every Friday and Saturday night, I was surviving my own business, so I could drink on the weekend so I could let my hair down and be

I think because I’ve now shifted my business into who I wanted to be, and what I wanted in this world to reflect I have not needed the alcohol to them out some of the suppressed sides of myself. I’ve been able to fully lean into me completely and utterly.

Not only does it benefit me, but it benefits my family. My boys get to grow up with a mom who is fully present who isn’t trying to numb out or stuff down feelings that she is suppressing. I say that from my own lens as that is what I was doing, it does not mean everyone who drinks does those things, but it was the underbelly of my issues.

As I mark this two your date, cheers to another strawberry hibiscus water. If you are having issues with your own alcohol usage reach out, get help, let your loved ones know.

There can be so much joy, fun, fully expressed versions of you that are sober and you are just as worthy as if you drink.

Weekly Challenge:

Look at your own relationship with alcohol whether it’s in your life or not write down how makes you feel and how you experience others when they’ve had a few drinks.
