Ayurvedic Herbs
You keep hearing about ashwagandha, and you’re *this* close to giving it a try…
Here’s what I wish more people knew before they started taking random herbs they read about online.
Ashwagandha is popular for a reason! It’ has so many benefits and can be a great herb to help reduce stress. Let’s be honest most of us need less stress in our lives.
Which is great if you’re looking for stress reduction, male reproductive help, and a warming herb.
But what a lot of people aren’t talking about is this…the other side of the coin.
When you start taking ashwagandha is it really right for you? There’s a potential that it is too warming in nature and in increase in pitta dosha can happen.
You don’t want that because that means more hot flashes, internal heat, rashes, etc.
People don’t talk about this aspect often because we just aren’t well educated on properties of herbs in general unless you’ve studied them.
Ashwagandha is best taken topically as a cream, or oil on the skin. It should also never be taken with high pitta body types and in the presence of amavisha (reactive hot toxins in the body) according to Dr. Vaidya Mishra.
That’s why it’s vital to get a little insight from a trusted practitioner.
My weekly challenge
Why do you want to take an herb? What are your symptoms, what do you want to gain from taking it? Talk with a provider and decide what herb if any is right for you!
