Welcome to the Peaceful Power Podcast today I chat about what I learned from spending a week at home by myself last week.
Background
This was not my intended topic today but after spending just 24 hours alone in my house which I haven’t done in over 3 years for more than a few hours I needed to share insights into what I learned.
My hubby and son & dogs went with my in-laws to a cabin they rent every 4th of July. This was the first year I didn’t go as most of my clients were in town and I’m working on the Holistic Fitness Almanac for 2020 so have not had this long of time to set aside for work hours. My son is 3.5 years old doesn’t go to daycare or have a nanny. So my time to work on side projects to my business is slim. I needed to take advantage of this time.
Lessons Learned
- What do you put on auto pilot without even realizing it? Do you turn on a podcast, tv, music, talk to your cat or yourself to fill the silence. What is your background noise like in your home? You might start to see your vices shining through. See them and start to workout solutions as to what you can do to help yourself.
- You need to love yourself- this one hit me hard as I was cleaning up my dinner plates one night I thought wow one of my grandmas did this for over 40 years by herself no pets no spouse after my grandpa passed away. You only have your thoughts and what’s going on in your head. If those are not positive thoughts you will live a very unfulfilling life. My grandma passed away almost a year ago now at the age of 96. She did her thing for many years by herself. She had her routine and it’s easy to see why she loved it. It is comfort to know you can count at Jeopardy coming on at 4:30pm as you cook dinner and you will have dinner on the table by 5pm. Maybe catch the evening news, take a bath, read and go to bed.
- Routines do matter- Being by yourself for a week if your a mom to young kids can feel glorious initially, filled with anxiety, filled with what the heck do I do with myself. Having those routines and staples in your life are key to feeling productive and not like you’re just watching the clock go by.
- Get to know yourself- What do you feel like doing? I asked myself this as I didn’t have to be back to switch off with my husband and I take Jalen and he goes to work like I usually do after training in the mornings. Instead I asked myself what do I want to do? I want to go to a movie which I haven’t done in forever, I want to just sit and watch tv with no distractions, I want to take a nap, or simply I want to go to a restaurant and enjoy a good meal that I don’t have to cook. How can you use the time by yourself to get to know yourself more? There are layers here depending on your situation for your time alone but do the best you can to get in touch with yourself on a new level.
