Welcome to the Peaceful Power Podcast today we are kicking off the new year by slowing down, tuning in, and waking up for 2019!

Learn why slowing down, tuning in, and waking up helps you reach your fitness goals. Pushing faster, harder and more is not always the answer and sometimes at the start of the new year it seems like we need to do that or we won’t get the results we want. Learn how slowing down will help you get results that last.

Slowing Down

We are already into the 2nd week of January and hopefully you had the chance to slow down over the holiday season. To many of us say wow I can’t believe how fast it went and didn’t really get to soak up the magic of the season. We often are too busy making it perfect or doing little things that we think will matter when really it’s being present with the people around you that you will remember. For me I just got back from a week in Florida. We went the Friday after Christmas and all we did the entire time was hit the pool and the ocean up everyday. It was one of the best chill out vacations I’ve had. In the past I would have needed to plan a few side trips or think I should work but I on a last minute whim said I’m leaving my computer at home and I’m just taking a book to read and my journal. I allowed myself to slow down. Again the old version of me would have needed to work at some point on the trip or I would have felt behind. Instead I got up early and did my morning pages (journaling for 3 pages) on my deck looking out onto the ocean. I then would drink my coffee and sit and watch the waves roll in. I worked out M-W-F at the gym and did yoga or swam the other days. I allowed myself to go with the flow. I also made a few rules for myself on the trip as I didn’t want to come back feeling sluggish and tired. If I was going to have wine that night I wouldn’t start drinking until 6pm, I only had a snack if I absolutely was starving, I still worked out and moved my body everyday, and I went to bed early usually by 9pm most nights.

I never felt that sluggish 3pm tired that I had been feeling back at home. I always felt great and had energy to boot. When you’re thinking about your life today how can you implement a few rules to help you slow down and still feel good about yourself? What things do you need to add to your life that will actually bring more connection to yourself?

Tune In

What do you need right now? Close your eyes unless you’re driving and ask your body what it needs? Do you need a nap, do you need a workout, do you need to plan your meals, do you need to stop drinking alcohol? What is your body telling you? Next listen. Our bodies are always communicating with us and most of us ignore her. We might ask but we don’t like the answer. What happens our bodies and our minds slowly start to disconnect from each other. That is why so many of us feel so lost in our bodies. We have asked but we haven’t listened for so long our minds just stopped telling us what our bodies want. Why I like to ask myself this is sometimes you get an uncomfortable answer. For me it was to not drink in 2019. I will tell you I already broke that rule and had a glass of wine and celebratory drink my husbands brother made us from his trip to Peru the last day we were in Florida. When we got home my hubby asked how is the new goal? I said I had asked myself the same question on the plane ride home. I felt a little defeated but when I tuned in again it felt right in that moment to have a the two drinks. The wine was with my sister-in law whose birthday it was that day and the Peru drink as how many times will I get the chance to have that? I told him I would have a drink in the celebratory moments of life if it felt right. I won’t have wine on a random cold Friday night because I’m bored. That is what came through for me. So as your body told you what it needed honor the variations or modifications that might need to come after you make it. Don’t feel defeated and throw the entire thing away just ask yourself again was that the right message? Maybe it will come back yes and if that was the case for me I would vow again not to drink but that’s not what came through for me.

Wake Up

Finally it’s time to wake up. The fog of the new year and the holidays are behind us and now it can be a long, gray, cold rest of winter depending on where you live. You still need to wake up. Right now we are in Capricorn season with the new moon that happened on Saturday and partial solar eclipse. Which means now is the time to work on your goals for 2019 and take action. This is the perfect time to write them out and give yourself a plan next to each goal. Maybe you already wrote out your goals and already forgot them get your plan back out and write dates next to all of the goals. Write action steps you can take to achieve them. I will tell you one big goal for me is to build my apothecary this year. I just signed up for The Herbal Academies beginner course and will work through that and want to really build up my herb knowledge. I’ve already created my first salve at the end of 2018 and gave it away as gifts my mom was quite impressed that I had made that. So this is something I feel an inner knowing is meant for me. What is that thing for you? Again in the Capricorn season if you want a career switch or a side passion to work towards now is the time to work on that. Let me know over on Instagram @andreaclaassen21 what your passion is and what your working towards. I cannot wait to hear everyones dreams for 2019!

Weekly Challenge

Write out 2-3 big goals for 2019 and an action plan with dates next to them for when you want to achieve that item.
