Now is the time to nourish the mother
I’ve seen how often new mothers are expected to bounce back, carry on, and quietly hold everything together while their own needs fall to the bottom of the list. I believe postpartum deserves more than survival. It deserves rest, nourishment, and compassionate care that honors how much a woman has given. You deserve to be tended to in this season, so your healing becomes the foundation you stand on for years to come, not something you have to circle back to later.

Herbal support is based on what your needs are which could be foods, beverages, flower essence, or bath blends. All will be created to help you find your hormonal balance again.
Ayurveda follows a mostly meat free diet the initial weeks postpartum and slowly introduces foods that might be harder to digest as your agni (digestion) gets stronger. All foods are warm & cooked to keep mama nourished and replenished after birth.
Rest
The initial 6 weeks take time to slow down following the 5x5x5 rule. Yoga nidra, meditation, baths, yoni steams, womb basti are all ways I introduce ancient healing techniques to help you rest.
Abhyanga is vital in the first 42 days postpartum for new mamas. It helps reduce anxiety, ground the mind, and reduce dryness in the body. I will teach you how to do massage for yourself as well as provide abhyanga massage when I'm there.

Answer
Groceries and weekly supplies are provided by you. Before each visit Andrea will share exactly what is needed so you always know what to have on hand no guesswork, no last minute runs to the store.
Any specialized Ayurvedic herbs or harder to find items- like dashamula or shatavari — I will provide myself so you never have to hunt down something unfamiliar while you're in the thick of new motherhood.
A traditional postpartum doula is a wonderful support- offering practical help, emotional support, and general newborn care guidance during the early weeks after birth.
An Ayurvedic postpartum doula does something a little different.
The focus is almost entirely on the mother- her recovery, her restoration, and her return to herself. Rather than general postpartum support, Ayurvedic care draws from thousands of years of ancient wisdom specifically designed for the fourth trimester.
Where a traditional doula might help with household tasks, newborn care, and feeding support an Ayurvedic postpartum doula brings:
✦ Intentional nourishment- warming, healing meals specifically chosen to rebuild digestion and restore vitality
✦ Herbal medicine — time tested Ayurvedic herbs that support healing from the inside out
✦ Body care rituals — abhyanga, yoni steaming, and belly binding rooted in ancient postpartum tradition
✦ Deep rest practices — yoga nidra and meditation to restore the nervous system
✦ Ojas restoration — every element of care is designed to rebuild your vital energy after the profound depletion of birth
Think of it this way- a traditional postpartum doula helps you manage the fourth trimester. An Ayurvedic postpartum doula helps you heal it.
The sweet spot for booking is typically around 25-30 weeks of pregnancy- this gives us time to connect, create a plan, and make sure everything is in place before your little one arrives.
It's also worth knowing that Andrea only works with 1-2 postpartum clients per month. This is intentional it means you receive truly dedicated, personalized care rather than being one of many. But it does mean spots fill quickly.
If you're feeling the pull toward Ayurvedic postpartum care, don't wait. Reach out early and let's make sure your fourth trimester is held with the attention it deserves.
Andrea is based in St. Paul, Minnesota and travels to most suburbs within a 30 mile radius.
Not sure if you're within the area? Reach out at andrea@andreaclaassen.com and she'll let you know. Some exceptions can be made depending on location so it's always worth asking.
Absolutely! Each week Andrea will share what she's thinking of making and you get to choose what sounds best to you. This is your postpartum experience- your voice and your preferences always matter.
The recipes I draw from are specifically chosen with your digestion in mind. The fourth trimester is a deeply vulnerable time for the digestive system and Ayurveda has thousands of years of wisdom around how to nourish and restore it. I work from a curated collection of Ayurvedic cookbooks focused specifically on this tender postpartum period — so every meal is doing more than just feeding you. It's actively supporting your recovery and rebuilding your strength from the inside out.
Every visit is around 2 hours and is designed to feel like a soft landing in the middle of new motherhood.
Andrea typically begins by preparing a warm cup of dashamula tea — a traditional Ayurvedic herbal blend deeply supportive of postpartum recovery while getting your meal started for the day.
From there the visit flows into a body care practice chosen based on what you need most in that moment. This might look like:
✦ Abhyanga — a warm oil massage that deeply nourishes the nervous system and helps your body feel held and restored
✦ Yoni steam — a gentle, warming practice that supports healing in the postpartum body
✦ Belly binding — a traditional practice that supports core recovery and helps you feel contained and grounded after birth
✦ Yoga Nidra or meditation — deep rest and nervous system restoration for a mother who needs to be filled back up
No two visits look exactly the same because no two days in new motherhood are exactly the same. Andrea meets you exactly where you are — every single time.
Totally fine — and honestly more common than you might think!
Some of Andrea's most beloved clients have come to Ayurvedic postpartum care knowing very little about Ayurveda itself. What they did know was that they wanted to slow down, be nourished, and actually recover after birth rather than rushing back to normal.
And that instinct? That's Ayurveda at its core.
The four pillars of Ayurvedic postpartum care are beautifully simple:
✦ Rest — deep, intentional rest that allows your body to truly recover
✦ Nourishment — warm, healing foods that rebuild your strength from the inside out
✦ Herbal support — time tested plant medicine that supports your body's natural healing process
✦ Massage — nurturing touch that helps your nervous system feel safe, held, and restored
All of this is in service of one thing — restoring your ojas. In Ayurveda ojas is your vital energy, your deepest reservoir of vitality and immunity. Birth is one of the most ojas-depleting experiences a body can go through. This work is about filling you back up.
You don't need to know a single Sanskrit word to benefit from that.
